Identify opportunities for the design of a product within this subject area. The project has the support of Morphy Richards, a company that produces small electrical appliances. Your design should therefore be appropriate to the subject area of your client.
Initial research showing a key problem within hotels.
After some initial research into the project I found a problem that could be solved within the laundry cycle in hotels. Although it was a slightly different type of target market to what Morphy Richards usually do, i thought it would be an interesting area to design for. I decided to design a long lasting, robust modern hotel iron with as little components as possible making it easy to repair and manufacture.
When modeling I looked into different shapes to help prevent the iron from being broken if dropped or knocked I found that a triangular front gave the most protection whilst still keeping a traditional shape. I then specifically looked into water filling points as hotels often have oddly shaped sink basins.
An affordable, modern, minimal hotel iron with safety features complying with hotel standards.
